Oh, Charles… I take it all back. I reinstalled your Real Statistics Pack and all is working swimmingly. Sorry for the trouble. Thanks for a great resource.
I don’t see any new functions including the eigenvalue functions despite the fact that I have downloaded the RealStatistics Pack and I show Xrealstats in my add ins list along with the Solver Add-in. I am running MS Home and Bus 2019, v 2201.
When trying to download realstat from any icon possible only new browser windows keep popping up. I tried with different browsers same thing every time. There is something wrong with downloading.
I just tried downloading the Real Statistics file and I did not have this problem.
In any case, you should be able to download the software from the following webpage:

Hi Charles, for some reason I can’t use the add-in even though it is installed and checkmarked in my excel add-ins page. Whenever I press ctrl-m, nothing happens.
What do you see when you enter the formula =VER() in any cell?
Charles
Dear Prashanth,
I was also facing the same problem. And I reloaded the Add-in again it started working.

Hello,
I was just asked to cover multiple regression, including logit, in my management science class this fall (2021). I have been using Excel for many of the modeling techniques that I cover in my management science class. When I tried to use Excel, I was surprised to discover that logit was not included in the add-in analytical tool pack. My first attempt was to actually use formulas and to construct the columns containing the odds, logs, etc. and use Solver to find the regression equation. Then, I found your YouTube video and subsequently downloaded real-statistics package add-in. Thank you so much for doing this – it saved me and my students a ton of time and headaches. Great job!
Vahid,
Glad I could help.

As 2020 draws to a close, we should all thank Charles, big-time! This year’s updates to his package are (1) very useful, (2) well-documented, (3) numerically accurate, (4) computationally stable, (5) trivial to install error-free, (6) version-verified, and (7) well-supported via timely answers to emails and posts.
The fact that his software is free to all (no ads, no “premium” versions with features you need) is remarkable. Most commercial software operations cannot make these same claims.
I am a professional statistician with lots of data to analyze every working day. Clients always send me their data in Excel. I always use Real Statistics. My productivity is off-the-charts good. So: THANKS!
PS: There is a CONTRIBUTE button on this site. Why not use it? I did! I simply found Charles via an internet search, no other connection; I am happy and thrilled to donate.
Thank you very much, Larry.
Charles
Larry,
I was trying to think of a way to thank Charles but when I read your post, I knew I couldn’t come up with anything better. I am a reliability engineer and I use statistics and Excel all the time. Charles has done some remarkable work as you commented. I am amazed, humbled at the quality of his work, and most grateful.

Hello Charles,
Thank you for this wonderful site and tools.
Will I be able to perform prediction ellipse or Beta distribution analysis using this? What do you recommend for x and y coordinate data representing motion of centre of pressure over time when measuring balance on a balance board.
Besides standard deviation and change in velocity, I wanted to show changes to number of motion shifts in 90 seconds, prediction of where mean centre of pressure would be with prediction ellipse and with maxwell-boltzman dostribution correlate number of position changes and velocity with size of feet of person standing on the measurement board.
Can this software use other analysis or these to achieve these statistical correlations?
Thank you so much for your time answering this question.
~Alper
Alper,
Thank you for your kind words about the Real Statistics website and tools.
I don’t understand the relationship between the beta distribution (based on one independent variable) and the balancing board (presumably based on two independent variables) that you are referencing. It is possible that the Real Statistics analysis tools can do what you need, but I would need more information about the scenario that you have in mind before I would be able to comment further.

Hi, I have used several macro based Excel sheets, and I experience a similar problem. However, it started with another product, and I realised it relates the clipboard and there is currently no solution available. Hope this helps.
Bob,
Which problem are you referring to?
Charles
Dear Charles,
I’m using the recent Version 7.2 Xrealstats.xlam in Excel 2010 on a PCwith Win 7, 64 bit, Intel i7-6700 and 16 GB RAM. Just recently I noticed, that Excel was slow in just simply copy and paste an number from cell A to B, without any formulas or anything else. With slow I mean it takes 1 second for copying and one second for pasting, which is annoying when you have to do this a couple of times a day. When I was trying to track down the problem I found that disabling Xrealstats Add-In solved the problem. Copy and paste returned to be as quick as usual, meaning there is no time delay. Are you aware of that issue AND can you help me solving that issue?
Thank you.
Jürgen
Jürgen,
I am using Real Statistics on a similarly configured PC and have not seen any evidence of this problem nor has anyone else reported this problem. Have you tried to restart your computer?
Charles
I’ve observed this problem for a while before I started to look for the cause. Since then I restarted the computer several times. So essentially you don’t have an idea how this add in might cause the time problem during copy and paste?
Jürgen
Sorry, I don’t know what could be causing this and so far I haven’t heard of a similar problem from anyone else.
Charles
Dear Charles,
in case you were still wondering if Jürgen’s issue was an exception or not, I can tell you that I experienced the same behavior on two PCs of mine:
– Laptop: Surface Book 2 Intel Core i5-7300U @ 2.60GHz, running 64-bit Windows 10 and Excel 2016 32-bit
– Desktop: Intel Core i7-2600K CPU @ 3.40GHz, running 64-bit Windows 10 and Excel 2013 64-bit
I tried all the three RealStats version I could found in my storage:
7.3 Excel 2010/2013/2016/2019/365 Windows
6.8.1 Excel 2010/2013/2016/2019/365 Windows
6.5 Excel 2010/2013/2016/2019/365 Windows
…unfortunately, I haven’t older versions to test.
This 1-second delay in copy and paste actions is introduced whenever (and only when) one of the above XRealStats add-in is enabled.
The effect is instantaneous, i.e. no need to restart Excel. Of course, it persists even after Excel or Windows get restarted.
To me, is a minor issue and I can ignore this cost, in particular if compared to the immense benefit I get from having RealStats enabled in Excel!
However, I felt to report this to you for your information, since it might well be the rule, rather than the exception (I’d bet most of RealStats users didn’t notice it, or simply ascribed it to a “physiological” slow down of their machine performance).
If you are interested in having a larger sample size 🙂 I could do some more tests on different machines or with older RealStats versions (if you send them to me) in order to detect the possible “starting point” of this behavior.
Just let me know…
…but, in any case, thank you for you effort and your wonderful software!
Federico A Ruffinatti
Federico,
Thank you for your kind remarks and for your information about the performance impact.
How much RAM memory do you have on your computers?
Do you still see the effect when you only have Excel open and no other application?
Charles
Charles,
both the PCs I tested have 8 GB of RAM…
and yes, I still see the effect even with the sole Excel running.
Notably, this delay only seems to affect the copy and past actions. I couldn’t find any other performance decrease in Excel features.
Federico
I am also having this delay issue when using the keyboard shortcut of ctrl+c and ctrl+v only (when I use right click copy and right click paste there is no delay – however that is time consuming). If I disable the Xrealstats add in my issue disappears immediately so I know it’s solely down to the add-in.
Vicki
Hello Vicki,
I don’t know how Real Statistics could cause such a problem. I don’t see this on my computer and have not heard of a similar problem from anyone else with the possible exception of one person a couple of years ago who reported some problem with slow processing when Real Statistics was active. I can’t recall any other details about this isolated incident.
Charles
Hi Charles
Thanks for the wonderful software.
I do run into a slight problem with my Office 16. While the AddIn works well the first time after installation, every time after I exit and restart Excel, I have to manually uncheck + OK then check + OK “Xrealstats” in the “Excel Add-ins” dialogue box for the “Add-in” ribbon to appear.
Have I done something wrong with the installation and is there a work-around?
Thanks so much for your help.

Hello Benalfew,
It is free to install and to use. Can you explain the problem that you are having?
Charles
Dear Charles!
I was very happy when I found the www page after a lot of searching. True, I am of Hungarian nationality, I do not understand English. I will also write this letter in Hungarian and send it to you translated with Google, but if Google doesn’t translate something incomprehensibly: I’ll send it in Hungarian at the end of the letter if you want to clarify.
I would like you to help me with the following problem:
I want to know the statistics of a static time series, so I started using this great program package. I calculated a lot of ARIMA (p, 0, q) characteristics of the time series and recorded some of their characteristics for later analysis. I observed ARIMA (p = 1 to 50, d = 0, q = 1) and then ARIMA (p = 50, d = 0, q = 1 to 36) processes. I also plotted the SSE values of the two processes. (Illuminating).
I wanted to continue the calculations the next day, but the program (Ctrl + m / Real Statics / Time s / Arima Model and Forecast….) Always stopped with an error. Neither the new ARIMA parameters nor the data from yesterday (calculated once) could be reproduced. I turned everything off and on again, using it in a new Excel spreadsheet: it doesn’t matter, not even ARIMA (1,0,1).
I also attach the Excel file.
Sincerely, please help me solve my problem.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Please note that we can only communicate through Google.
Sincerely:
Barnabas

Kedves Charles!
A két folyamat SSE értékeit diagramba is foglaltam. (Tanulságos).
Másnap folytatni akartam a számításokat, de a program (Ctrl+m/Real Statics/Time s/Arima Model and Forecast….) mindig megállt hibával.
Segítségedet előre is Köszönöm.

Hello Velasco,
Sorry, but Real Statistics does not yet support negative binomial regression. It does support Poisson regression and I expect to add support for negative binomial regression shortly.

Hi Gabriele,
Thank you very much for sharing this with us.
The unblocking approach is already recommended at the following FAQ

but I didn’t know that it would solve the Add-In ribbon disappearing problem.
I didn’t know about the Trusted Location approach.

Hi Charles, in the holt winter excel you have provided you have created a seasonal parameter, Can you please explain more on this parameter. When i mark it to 4 the forecasting begins after 4 rows and when i make it to 12 it creates after 12 rows. So can you explain the significance here.
We are trying to immitate this using holtwinter function of R but the start period of the excel and the start period of R holtwinter and similarly the end period of excel add in and end period of R doesnt match. Any information around this or any similar question if some one asked before, any advice would be very helpful.
If the seasonality is 4, you can only start to get information that relates to the seasons after one cycle (namely 4 time periods) have passed. Some implementations make some sort of initial estimate of the first 4 time periods based on looking at future events (e.g. using an average). I don’t know whether R does this, but this may account for the difference.
Charles
Hi Charles
Thanks for the response. So when you say seasonality is 4 does this mean that we aare considering the data as quarterly. why i am asking is when i have 12 data points and seasonal =12 it gives error that 2 periods should be available but when i say seasonality=4 it starts working so little confused here on how to interpret seasonality=4 and 12.
Period = 4 means quarterly and period = 12 means monthly.
Charles
thanks Charles appreciate the response.

Hi Charlie, my 2016 Excel version cannot use the xRealstats package and always give me an error that states ”Compilation error in hidden module: Analysis. This error typically occurs when the code is not compatible with the version, platform, or infrastructure of the application. Click help for information on how to correct this error.”How do I do that?
See Compile Error
Charles
Thanks, now my previous error is solved, but a new error appears: every time I try to open Excel, it always says:”The “c: \ program Excelfiles\windowsapps\microsoft.office.desktop.excel 16051.12130.20272.0 neutral language-zh-cn 8wekyb3d8bbweloffice 16\libraRy \solver\solver.xlam” add-in problem. If this problem persists, disable this add-on and check for available updates. Do you want to disable it immediately?” And I have to repeat the process in “Compile Error” every time I reopen Excel.
Hello,
I am not familiar with this error and don’t know what it means. What version of Excel are you using? What do you see when you enter the formula =VER() in any cell?
Charles
I am using Excel 2016, Chinese version, so after I solved the Compile Error by the solution that you posted, every time I exit Excel and try to reopen it, I always encounter a error message which states that “solver.xlam” add-in in Excel has a problem. The whole error message is ” The “c: \ program
Excelfiles\windowsapps\microsoft.office.desktop.excel 16051.12130.20272.0 neutral language-zh-cn 8wekyb3d8bbweloffice 16\libraRy \solver\solver.xlam” add-in problem. If this problem persists, disable this add-on and check for available updates. Do you want to disable it immediately?”
I cannot open Excel normally unless I click on “yes” to disable(ban) the solver add-in. And then I have to repeat the solution in “Compile Error” which you posted to me to make sure xRealstats can be used. The funny thing is if I do not exit Excel and reopen it manually I won’t have this problem which is mentioned above.
Very strange. I really don’t know what could cause such a strange problem.
Have you tried using Solver without Real Statistics?
Charles
I’ve typed in the formula =VER, and press Enter, and it returns”6.6.2 Excel 2010/2013/2016/2019/365 Windows”.
Young,
Thanks. This is as it should be.
Charles
xRealstats doesn’t work without ticking solver add-in.
Yes, that is definitely correct.
Charles
And I’ve tried using solver with and without xRealstats, it works normally.
I was hoping that this was a Solver problem, but that apparently is not the case.
Charles
Now I’ve updated my 2016 version to 365, it seems that the error I mentioned above disappeared so that I can open Excel normally, though I have to use Ctrl-M to call add-in show up since the button of add-in also disappeared, but generally add-in(xRealstats) works normally!
Great news. Glad to see that you got it to work.
Charles
Will I be able to run the biweight function for the 2003 version?
No. Sorry but the 2003 version is frozen since Microsoft no longer supports Excel 2003.
Charles
i have downloaded followed the procedure ,
still its not getting installed , Excel is getting off
Did you follow the installation instruction on the webpage from where you downloaded the software?
What error messages are you getting?
Charles
Hi Charles, Thanks for reply.
Hi Charles,
I am trying to estimate Sen’s slope using Real Statistics Resource Pack. The input data range is E2:E1234. But it provides output only for input data range approximately E2:E1020. Kindly tell me, if there is limit for input data range.
Regards
Hello Tariq,
If there is a limit is probably something like 65,000 elements, which is much higher than 1,233.
Charles
Thank you for the great statistic support. Very informative and supportive to learn different things with great calculation guidelines.
RealStats is asking for a password? I have successfully installed this on another computer. This one doesn’t seem to be working.

Charles
Hi Charles,
I have found an elegant solution to the Solver-Realstats conflict. The conflict appears obviously because in the latest update(s) of Excel 365 the add-ins are uploaded in an alphabetic order (as they appear in the “Add-ins” list with the checkboxes). If you rename “Realstats” e.g. to “Statsreal” [or to “Zealstats” 🙂 ] it will uploaded after solver and no problem occurs.
Kind regards,
Christian
Hi Christian,
Thank you for sharing this. This is very helpful. Shortly, I will create a new release with this sort of change.
Charles
Hi Charles,
I was aware of the workaround, thank you.
What I wanted to point out in the last message is that obviously the problem arises just from the fact, that the addins are loaded in a different order and there’s no “new”conflict between them. This info maybe helps to solve the problem…
Kind regards,
Christian
Hi Charles,
I have the same problem of Solver conflicting with RealStats on my desktop.
On my laptop, where I obviously don’t have yet the update, the problem does not occur and I have observed that in this case the order of loading the add-ins is different, i.e. first Solver is loaded and then RealStats.
On the desktop where the problem occurs, first RealStats is loaded and then Solver.
Maybe this helps.
Kind regards and once again many thanks for your great tool!
Christian
Christian,
See Conlict between Real Statistics and Solver
Charles
Hi Charles
I had the same installation problem in my new notebook that has the latest Excel 365 version (installed last weekend) but not in my desktop that did not receive the last upgrade yet. It seems there is a conflict with solver but only during start-up, for now I found this workaround: Deactivate realstats, activate solver and close the book and Excel. Start Excel, open a new book and then activate realstats. Everything works fine (Add-ins tab appears in the options ribbon, etc). Before leaving Excel deactivate realstats so as to not get the conflict with solver next time. You can activate realstats again once Excel is running the conflict is only at start-up, at least that is what I found so far. Thanks for your excellent software!
Thanks for sharing this, Gerardo.
I have now added an FAQ with your suggestion.
Charles
Hi Charles,
I’ve been using Real Statistics for a couple years now, and really love it–in fact, I recently wrote a blog post about how useful I’ve found it. I’m using Excel 2016 with Windows 10.
I think I’m having the same problem that Gerardo and Andy are experiencing.
In the last couple weeks, when I start Excel with both Solver and Realstats enabled, I’ve been getting an error message: “Excel is running into problems with the ‘c:\program files…\solver.xlam’ add-in. If this keeps happening, disable this add-in and check for available updates. Do you want to disable it now?” If I disable Realstats before closing Excel, this does not happen. I’ve tried running the repair Office procedure, and downloading a new copy of the Solver files. That didn’t fix it. But Gerardo’s work-around seems to be working for me as well, so that’s very helpful.
One other thing. Solver must be activated first, before Realstats, or it will cause Excel to crash. So if you get the error message I mentioned above and disable Solver, you then have to go into the Add-Ins options screen, disable Realstats, then enable Solver, and then re-enable Realstats to keep Excel from crashing, and then remember to disable Realstats before closing Excel at the end of a session.
I’m afraid that might cause a lot of frustration among new users especially, so I hope this is fixable! Again, this add-in has made Excel so much more useful than it was before–thanks again for all your work on this!
Hi Bob. I don’t know why Microsoft has created this sort of problem. I agree that while Gerardo’s workaround is a step forward, it can be tedious to implement each time. In any case, I will try to investigate this further. In particular, I will look into automating Gerardo’s approach.
Charles
Hi Bob,
I have just created a macro which I hope provides a temporary fix. See

Hi Charles,
Love this piece of software! Well done!
Unfortunately since changing computer I came upon problem with installation and wondering if anyone experienced the same: with solver in when installing Realstats.xlam as per above instruction all is good but only until exiting excel. Upon starting it again I am getting the message that excel has problem with solver and the question if I want disable solver. Only way to run excel from this point is to turn solver off (with Realstats showing in the context menu). But I believe that Realstats will not work correctly without the solver… Any ideas what can be wrong?
Thank you in advance!
Hi Andy,
Glad that you like the Real Statistics software.
One other person just reported a similar problem, but otherwise I had not heard of this specific problem. What differences are there in the two computers (operating system and version of Excel)? Do you have any other information that might help me isolate the problem?
Charles
Hi Charles,
Thank you for reply! My machine is Win10 1903, MS Office 365 MSO, Excel 16.0.11727.20222 (64-bit). So far I have tried changing Realstats.xlam file name, placing the file in other folder, Office repair but with no success. Gerardo solution is the only one which works but it is a bit of a pain, esp. if one is forgetting to turn Realstats add-in off before leaving excel…
Thank you in advance for investigating it!
Thanks Andy for the feedback. I don’t know why Microsoft has created this sort of problem. In any case, I will try to investigate this further. In particular, I will look into automating Gerardo’s approach.
