Some of you have reported that Real Statistics disappears from the Add-ins ribbon. What follows is a potential way to eliminate the problem thanks to some research done by Jeff.
First of all, this problem is likely due to a security enhancement that Microsoft recently made to Excel which impacts add-ins. The following steps should be useful in eliminating this problem.
- If Excel is running, close it
- Find the file with the Real Statistics add-in. Right click on the file and click on the Properties option from the menu that appears.
- Towards the bottom of the General tab of the Properties window you will see the security message “This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer”. Next to this message is the Unblock check box. Make sure this is checked and press the OK button.
- Start Excel
If you don’t see the security message in step 3 above, then probably the cause of the problem is different.
If you are having this problem, please let me know whether or not this approach solves the problem for you.
Again, thanks to Jeff for finding the solution.
Charles
worked for me!
I also have the problem of Real Statistics having disappeared from the Add-ins ribbon. Tried the fix of checking Unblock box and also adding the New location suggestion from Mark.
Problem remains after restarting Excel and computer. I have access to Real-Statistics using Cntrl-m, however. Running Windows 10, Office 365. Any suggestions?
Joseph,
Sorry, but I don’t have any further suggestions. I am hoping that some reader will provide some further insight.

Charles –
Sorry, but none of these fixes worked for me. I can disable/re-enable Real-Stats each time I open Excel, but other than that it is not available to me. (Excel 2016 on Win 10 EDU). Not sure if this is related, but I have Tableau and JMP add-ins installed as well.
(I changed the properties for the add-in file and added the path to the trusted locations as above, but no change in symptoms.)
Thanks for all you do!
Alvin
Alvin,
Are you still able to access the Real Statistics data analysis tools by pressing Ctrl-m ?
Charles
What worked for me (Excel 2013, 64 bit) was to open the Excel Options Tab (from the File menu), and then go to the Trust Center (below the Add-Ins). Click on Trust Center Settings, then on Trusted Locations. Add the path to the folder where put the you put the Real Statistic Add-In (use the Add New Location button and browse to that folder. Excel will now open that folder every time you start it.
Yes, this worked for me. Windows had prevented it from being opened.
I have this problem, and had already performed the steps mentioned…
… the issue remains. These steps did not rectify the issue for me, unfortunately.
If I disable/enable the add-in, it will reappear for that session … but once I close & reopen, Excel, it disappears again, despite having both unblocked the add-in in the file properties and having added the folder/path to the trusted locations.
Hi,
This solution worked for me, thanks and much appreciated.
Corca.
Thank you, Charles. This is exactly what was wrong in my computer.
